Kara Bissen
LMSW-A
Hello!
Hello! My name is Kara Bissen. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in the state of Texas, dedicated to supporting individuals with trauma histories as they cultivate healthy relationships and build meaningful, fulfilling lives. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and completed my Master of Social Work at the University of Houston.
My clinical experience spans a wide variety of settings, including residential treatment centers, homeless shelters, equine-assisted therapy programs, psychiatric step-down units, community mental health centers, and private practice. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I draw from several evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI).
My approach is always relational, compassionate, and collaborative. I utilize a queer-empowering and feminist perspective. it is proven the therapeutic connection with the therapist has the most impact on therapy outcomes; because of this, I prioritize building trust between us through authenticity, transparency and non-judgement. It is an honor to walk side by side with others on their healing journey.
